New this Summer – Pittock Mansion at Dusk
Experience the magic of Pittock Mansion at dusk when the sky changes color, bringing a peaceful aura all around the mansion! Starting in June, the mansion will be open late till 7 pm every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month for special evening hours filled with live local music. Feel like a guest of the Pittocks as you wander through the historic halls, enjoy intimate performances, and experience the mansion in a whole new light. Bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic dinner on the front lawn as you enjoy stunning evening views of Portland.

One of our featured artists includes Chris Marble, a Forest Grove native, who rediscovered her love of music in an unexpected place: the historic Pittock Mansion. After years away from the piano and moving back to Oregon in 2009 to care for her mother, Chris toured the mansion in 2015 and asked if she could play a piano in the Carriage House. That spontaneous moment rekindled her passion for music.
Encouraged by a staff member, she was soon invited to play the mansion’s iconic Steinway piano—an experience she describes as deeply moving and transformative. Since then, Chris has been a cherished part of Pittock Mansion’s holiday and summer programming, filling the halls with music and joy.
Now the Music Director at First Christian Church in Forest Grove, Chris also performs at special events and memory care centers. She is honored to share her music and often says with pride, “I play the Steinway at Pittock Mansion.”

Our second group of artists are called The Just Us Duo, featuring longtime musicians Morgan and Robin, and have been performing throughout the Portland metro area for over 25 years. Known for their engaging performances and passion for music, they bring warmth and enthusiasm to every stage they grace.
In addition to their duo work, both Morgan and Robin are active members of the Westside Community and Youth Orchestra—a musically diverse and vibrant ensemble that rehearses at Liberty High School in Washington County. Whether performing as a duo or with an orchestra, they are dedicated to sharing the joy of music with audiences of all ages.

Behind the Scenes Tours – Discover rarely seen spaces on a guided Behind the Scenes Tour of Pittock Mansion. This exclusive experience takes you beyond the main mansion areas into areas that are not open to the general public. These areas include the basement that houses the original electric grid, a massive boiler and the elevator closet, as well as the third floor which housed Henry’s Den, a multipurpose family room and servant quarters (now used as administrative offices and collections storage). This tour reveals how the Pittock family and staff lived and worked in the early 20th century.

Architecture Tour – Explore the unique design and craftsmanship of Pittock Mansion on this guided Architecture Tour led by one of our expert volunteers. Learn about the blend of French Renaissance and Victorian styles, innovative early 20th-century features, and the stories behind the mansion’s construction and restoration. Other interesting vignettes such as why Henry built the mansion, what it cost at the time, and the local artisans that contributed their creative skills to building the architectural marvel will be shared.

Juneteenth – In observance of Juneteenth, Pittock Mansion will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This closure honors the significance of Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Regular operating hours will resume on Friday, June 20.

From stonemasons and carpenters to gardeners, cooks, and maids, many people worked to build and maintain Pittock Mansion, the home of Henry and Georgiana Pittock and their descendants. Stone and Service: The Builders and Workers of Pittock Mansion showcases some of the workers who contributed their skills and expertise to the building and day-to-day running of the Pittock family home.

OUR HISTORY

Built in 1914, Pittock Mansion tells the story of Portland’s transformation from pioneer town to modern, industrialized city through the history and legacy of one its most influential families.

Please note that our original 1914 elevator is currently out of order until further notice.
